Poser is a  3D rendering software package for the posing, animating and rendering , poser software optimized for models that depict the human  in  3D form, mostly used to form and move the figures in a manner similar to a mannequin. The program has gained popularity for allowing beginners to produce animation and digital images, and wide availability of third-party digital models.


 Poser allows the user to load figures, lighting , props and cameras for still and animated renderings.

Poser comes with a large library of pre-rigged human, animal, cartoon figures and robotic. The package also includes library of pre-built, ready to use content including poses, materials, props, facial expressions, hand poses, hair pieces, lights, cameras and scenes - As Poser itself does not allow for original modeling of objects, a large community market of merchants and artists creating, selling and marketing third-party Poser content emerged, but these new models are usually crafted in ZBrush, modo,  Blender or 3DS Max.

Poser's interface has evolved since the product's introduction in 1995. The current Poser 9 and Poser Pro 2012 versions preserve many  elements of the application interface - so that legacy users can move into the newest version and navigate the application without the trouble of re-learning program's controls.
  
Features :

Firefly: render engine which supports material nodes for the creation of complex materials.
sound / image / video / motion: Poser provides import of sound files, image files, video and motion capture data

3D content: Poser provides import 3D content for creation a Poser scenes or for creation a new Poser library items.
exports: Poser exports content in a variety of 3D formats and export rendered images or animation.
series of rooms: for material editing, dynamic hair, facial photo matching, dynamic cloth, new figure rigging and room provides a link to on-line content.
Poser Python: inside Poser enables third party developers to create a variety of additional features for Poser users ranging from custom libraries, rendering engine control panels, metadata editors and utility scripts.

Library :

• Character: anatomically accurate humans, mannikins, insects, animals, dinosaurs, cartoon characters, human anatomy: musculature, skeletons and  mechanical figures such as vehicles
• Pose: animated and static poses for the human and animals covering day to day activities, walking,  standing, sitting and dancing - as well as sport and action poses.
• Face: full and partial facial expressions.
• Hair: prop based transparency mapped hair pieces - dynamic hair pieces and hair props such as mustaches or sideburns.
• Props: spheres and cylinders, clothing items grouped by character,  furniture, scene props, rooms, vehicles, plants and cartoon elements.
• Hand: hand poses of various types such as American Sign Language, counting, hand signals, action poses and gestures.
• Lights: animated or static pre-set lights consisting of spotlights, point lights, infinite lights, diffuse IBL lights.
• Cameras: animated or static cameras
• Materials: includes simple and complex node based materials
• Scenes: includes full Poser scenes including a Factory, Crime Scene Lab and a modern Apartment.
